Yellow Sails is a dream exploration game developed by Studio Mothmen for the Dream Diary Jam 4 event. Submitted as a traditional Yume Nikki fangame, this role-playing game will have you explore strange islands across distant oceans while you dream.  You are free to explore the dream worlds at your own pace. And while you are out discovering, you will need to collect effects to make your game exciting. 

Very much like Yume Nikki

Yume Nikki is a unique indie game title from Japan. Unlike other RPGs, this type has no dialogue and actions. This gives the game a very dark and foreboding atmosphere. Yellow Sails is created very much like the Yume Nikki game, but with a nautical twist. Instead of opening doors to strange worlds, in this game, you will need to discover surreal islands in the vast sea.

In the game, there are three islands that you will need to discover. There is the frozen island with a cave, a forest island haunted by eerie birds, and a ghost city inside the belly of a whale. The game showcases the lighthouse at the center of the ocean. And if you sail out into the distance, you will end up in one of the islands.

As noted, there isn’t much to do in this exploration game. But that doesn’t mean you will just go around the islands walking aimlessly. Aside from exploring, you will need to collect effects. Using effects will cause the main character in the game to change the appearance. Changing the appearance of the character will then help you traverse the islands. 

Interesting game

For a beta game, Yellow Sails showcases promising gameplay. Although it lacks action that most players like, exploring interesting islands will prove to be exciting. However, there are a few bugs that may affect your game. For one, applying effects to your character sometimes does not work. The game also crashes and sometimes fail to run.
